Where To Fish

Practice your Casting

If you are new to the sport of fishing, one of the first things that you will want to learn is how to cast. After all, how else are you going to get your bait or lure in front of the fish? When it comes to the basics of fishing, casting is just about as important as it gets. While you may think that learning to cast is hard to do, this is definitely not the case; a little bit of practice can go a long way.

Casting and your Reel

Believe it or not, casting has a lot to do with the type of fishing reel you are using. When it comes down to it, some of them are much easier to cast with than others. Beginners will be best off with a closed face, push button reel. These are easiest to learn on, and do the best job with keeping knots to a minimum. As you get more and more comfortable, you may want to learn how to cast with other types of reels such as bait casting or spinning.

Practice at Home

You do not need to be on the water in order to practice casting. In fact, you can do this in your backyard, driveway, or anywhere else you have a bit of space. Put a marker on the ground, and cast a weight as close to it as you can. No, you will not have the chance to catch any fish, but this can still be a lot of fun. As you get better at casting you will feel more confident about yourself when it is time to actually take to the water. The fact of the matter is that it takes time to become a good fisherman. And if you want to speed up your progress, practice is very important.

Overall, if you want to become more effective in the casting department, take the time to practice both on the water and at home. Over time, you will begin to notice huge improvements all around.
