Where To Fish

What are you fishing for?

Many people see fishing as a general sport. But guess what? In some cases, you have to decide what type of fish you are trying to catch. After all, you will not fish for bass the same way you would trout. They are attracted to different types of bait, and the presentation that you use will be different as well. Of course, there is no one species of fish that is better than others. Some are more popular, but that does not mean that you should fish for them.

Catfish and Carp

If you are a beginning fisherman, consider going after catfish and carp. These are two common species of fish that can be found in lakes, streams, and rivers. The nice thing about these fish is that they are caught best with live bait or other easy to acquire bait such as corn. This is the perfect situation for beginners because it can help you to avoid having to learn about artificial lures, etc.

Bass

Perhaps the most popular species of fish are the largemouth and smallmouth bass. Not only do beginners love fishing for bass, but the same holds true for professionals as well. In fact, there are thousands of bass fishing tournaments that take place all over the world each year. You may not want to fish a tournament as a beginner, but over time it is something to consider. You can fish for bass from the shore or a boat. While artificial lures are most common, live bait will work just the same.

Early on, your main goal should be to fish for whatever you can catch. And of course, a lot of this depends on the body of water that you are fishing. Obviously, a large lake is going to offer more species of fish than a small farm pond. But no matter what type of water you are on, you should be able to fish for one type of species or the next.
